Ivan Morgan, father of Franc, was among the first caretakers of the land that today forms the heart of the Morgan Estate. During his time, he planted several olive trees on the coastal hills – trees that still grow on the estate and are considered the oldest olive trees of the Morgan family. These trees, still standing by the homestead, are living witnesses of perseverance, dedication, and respect for the land that unites generations.
Olive growing in Slovenian Istria does not have a long history. Severe frosts in 1929, 1956, and 1985 destroyed nearly all olive groves. After the last frost, the locals mainly planted the Istrian Belica variety, which today represents about 70% of all olives in the region. Nevertheless, the resilient olive trees sprouted again and again, giving hope and a foundation for future olive cultivation.
Ivan Morgan devoted most of his life to working on the family farm in Grintovec. After his passing in 1991, his son Franc took over and passionately continued his father’s work, preserving the family legacy. Thus, the story of the Morgan farm continued from generation to generation.
Franc – known to everyone as Janko – decided to plant additional olive trees on the family estate. He did every step himself, from clearing abandoned terraces to preparing young shoots and grafting them with Istrian Belica. He also added nursery-grown trees, forming the foundation of our present-day olive grove.
